DC

On December 28th, we drove to Washington DC for a little vacation with Branden (brother-in-law) and Cody (long time friend). To be honest, we were a little tired from the trip to Utah, and we weren't really sure if we still wanted to make the DC trip, but as soon as we got there, we were excited. I think we were a little messed up from the time changes (we were all 2-3 hours behind), so we slept in late every day and took our time getting out of the hotel. We still managed to see pretty much everything we wanted to though. My back miraculously stopped hurting after we came home from Utah, and I only slowed us down a little while we were in DC. I tried not to complain a lot about my feet hurting, and I was glad that Brock said he was impressed that I did so well. I did get teased a lot for my frequent hunger and need to pee. The weather was pretty nice for January. We got a little cold on some of the nights, but at least it was sunny most every day we were there. Here are the things we saw and did (I think I remembered everything). I have to give Branden credit for taking a lot of these pictures.

Monday
*US Capitol

Brock booing Nancy Pelosi's office.
*Museum of Natural History

Brock imitating the dinosaur.

Tuesday

*Pentagon

*Arlington Cemetary

*Kennedy Center

It was kind of hard to see in the dark.

We used the Metro system to get around everywhere.
We also walked a ton, froze a little, and laughed a lot.

On New Year's Eve, we didn't know what to do. After dinner, we wanted some hot chocolate, but every place we went to was closed. We ended up riding the Metro around trying out different stops to see what was there. We came out in some scary places and still couldn't find a place to go. When we saw a lot of normal looking people on the subway, we followed them out to the street, but all that was open were bars. We finally gave up and got back to our hotel at about 11:50, watched the ball drop, and went to sleep shortly after.

When we were at the Pentagon, Brock had his video camera out. We heard a police car honking, but we didn't really know why or if they were honking at us. We thought maybe we weren't supposed to take video, so Brock started to turn off his camera and put it away, but a police officer drove up beside us and got out. She asked Brock to see what he had gotten on video, and he showed her. She said that he wasn't allowed to take video of the Pentagon and asked him to delete it. Since it's a new camera, it took him a while to figure out how to delete the segment. She waited for him to finish and show her that it was all deleted. Meanwhile she asked us where we were from, how we had gotten there, what we were doing, how we all knew each other, etc. She ran Brock's driver's license. It was pretty funny and weird. She said that we could take video and pictures of the memorial but not the building. When we got around to the memorial, other people were taking video and pictures of the building, and the guard there wasn't saying anything to them. So I guess they just thought we looked like terrorists or something. :)
