conway arkansas

Sometimes you wonder about where people come from. Since I've moved around a lot in the last few years, I think really highly of my hometown because it's familiar. I was born in Conway, and I graduated from Conway High School. I think I've spent about 15 years of my life there cumulatively. Even though I don't feel like I have much in common with most of the people I went to school with growing up, where I'm from is still a part of who I am. So I thought I would share a little about my little town of Conway Arkansas. Conway is a city of about 55,000 people and one of the fastest growing cities in Arkansas. It's in central Arkansas, about 30 miles north of Little Rock on I40. It's home to 3 colleges: The University of Central Arkansas, Hendrix College, and Central Baptist College. Conway High School is one of the largest in the state, and its mascot is the Wampus Cat (a 6-legged cat). There are 2 wards (of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints) there, and recently they've formed a Spanish group which I imagine will become a branch soon. Most people in Conway are Baptist. When people find out that I'm from Arkansas, they usually have the same response. Why don't you have an accent? (That is, if they even know enough about Arkansas to know that it's in the south.) I'm not really sure why I don't have one. Most of the time I'm glad that I don't, but other times I kind of wish I did because I'm proud of being from Arkansas and I want people to know that I grew up there. If someone doesn't know much about Arkansas, they may not even know it's a southern state after talking to me because I don't sound southern. This is the best picture I could find of Conway.
And this is what a wampus cat is supposed to look like. haha
Here's a map to show you where Arkansas actually is because I've found that a lot of people don't know (more so in Utah than in Texas or Kentucky because they're closer).
The latest big news in Arkansas is that HP has announced that they will be opening a new facility in Conway which will create 1200 new jobs in 2009.

So that's my town. Hopefully you know me a little better now.
