Locksmith

Today was a terrible holiday. It started out well this morning. We got ready, and we started doing a walk through of our house to find problems because I'm meeting with the warranty guy tomorrow morning. So we went through all the rooms inside, and Brock said to just get ready to go and we would leave after we looked outside. So I got all my stuff ready. Brock was already outside, so I went outside and locked the door behind me. Well, I started to open the car door to put my stuff inside, and it was locked. I realized that Brock probably hadn't brought the keys out with him. So there we were locked out of our house. Brock was mad at me for locking the door without checking if he had the keys. Luckily we had our computer outside because that's what we were using to make the list of problems with our house, so I looked up numbers for locksmiths. The first place I called said they could come in an hour and it would be $85. So I said I would try to find something else. I called another one and they said it would be 20-30 minutes. I asked how much it would cost and they said that the technician would call before he came and let me know. So we waited in our freezing cold garage. 30 minutes passed and no one showed up or called, so I called them back to find out. They said that he was having trouble finding our house because it wasn't on his GPS and it would be 15 more minutes so he could get directions. So we waited. About 20 minutes passed and nothing, so I called them again. I said we were told 20-30 minutes and no one has come yet. They called the technician and he said he was about 5 minutes away. I asked them again how much it would cost, and they said that he would call and let me know. So I waited and finally he called. I had to stay on the phone with him the whole time telling him each road to turn on. I asked him how much it would cost and he asked what type of lock I had. I told him, and he said he would have to see it. Finally, after an hour and 10 minutes of waiting in the cold, he showed up and got out of the car. He mumbled something about how do we expect people to find our house, and I said sorry thinking how is that my fault? So this is about how the conversation went:

me: How much will this cost?

him: $39 for the service fee and $110 to unlock the door, so $149 total.

me: I'm not paying that much. Another company told me $85 and they were honest and told me it would take an hour. You guys lied to me and said it would be 20-30 minutes, and it's been an hour and 10 minutes.

him: I couldn't find your house.

me: You could have called me a long time ago to get directions. Don't worry about it, we'll just call someone else.

him: The service fee is $39 for me coming here.

me: We're not paying it. I asked every time I called how much it would be and they told me that you would tell me before you came.

him: Will you pay $85?

us: Yes.

him: Cash?

us: Yeah we have cash.

him: Okay.

We were so mad. It took him 2 seconds to let us in.

I'm sorry you had to deal with that jerk. I'm glad you stood up to him. It reminds me of the time that my car was towed. Those people make a living off of taking advantage of people. I can only imagine how pissed you are...I'm getting myself worked up just typing this. P.S. My comment on Facebook was just a joke, just to clarify. :)

Way to hold your ground. Too bad you didn't tell him a lower price. We're looking forward to seeing you guys.

I wish I could be brave and stand up to people like that. What lame people!

That really sucks. I did the same thing once when Patrick went outside to feed his dog and I thought he had the keys, but he didn't. Luckly we were able to break in ourselves, but he was mad at me too for not checking first!

this story pisses me off just reading it. I can't even tell you how many times I've had to call a dude to get my keys out of my car... SO dumb.
