Connersville

This weekend we went to Connersville, Indiana to visit Brock's grandpa Cecil Roark. We got there Friday night. We started driving down a gravel road which we thought was his road, but we couldn't find his house and the numbers weren't in the same range as his. We weren't sure what to do though because we weren't getting any cell phone signal. We drove back and forth a few times trying to see the numbers on the houses in the dark. Finally we were able to call and find out that we were on the wrong road. Brock's Aunt Faye and Uncle Clair were there at his house to greet us. We visited a little and looked at pictures. There was one picture of Brock's dad when he was a teenager that looked exactly like Brock when he was younger. I asked Brock what he was doing alive in the 70s.

Saturday morning we went to the leadership training at church. After that we went to Brock's Grandma June's grave. She died in 2001 while Brock was on his mission, so he didn't go to her funeral and he hadn't ever been to her grave. We also drove around town looking at houses that they had lived in or owned. Cecil used to buy houses and build onto them or rebuild them. One of the houses they used to live in was for sale so we knocked on the door and asked if we could look at it. The owner said that his realtor didn't want him to show it while she wasn't there. Cecil said well, actually we're not really interested in buying it, but I built the house. So the guy happily let us come in and look. When Cecil bought the house there was only one story, but he built a second floor onto the house. It was fun to hear him talk about different things that he did and the owner asking questions about the house. It was also fun for Brock to see where he used to visit when he was a kid. For dinner Saturday night we met Brock's aunts, Faye and Pat, and their husbands, Clair and Bob, for Chinese food. I had never met Pat and Bob before, so it was nice to meet them.

Sunday we went to church at the Connersville Ward which is more like a branch. There were about 70 people there. Brock didn't know how to take the comment of one lady who said that she knew Brock was Joe's son from the back of his head (I guess Brock is a little sensitive about his hair thinning). :) After church we went to Faye's house for a big tasty lunch with a lot of Brock's cousins and their kids. He hadn't seen any of these people since he was little. They were all really nice and friendly. We visited for awhile, and went back to Cecil's house to get ready to go. Brock was able to help his grandpa with some of the problems he's been having with his computer, so hopefully it's a little more cooperative for him now.

We had a really good visit in Connersville. It's really nice to have family close to us everywhere we go. We enjoyed being close to Brock's mom's family in Texas, and now we have the opportunity to spend more time with his dad's family in Indiana.
I took this picture when we were lost. Brock just stopped on the road while he was calling to get directions. I thought something was going to jump out and get me.
Here are Brock and his grandpa at his grandma's grave. This is the house where he built the 2nd story.

I'm glad you put up a picture of where you got lost. It made the story way more scary. It really does look like something will jump out at you! No DDR recently. A little over Christmas at my family's house. We wanted to buy it, but then when I got pregnant I didn't feel the need for a while. We are now back on the hunt for the cheapest DDR game we can find.
