Just a Few Thoughts

1. It's strange how the addition of one tiny little person to a family leads to about 10 times as much laundry. How does that add up?

2. We had nice light at sunset today, so I took Pierce outside in the front yard and tried to take some pictures of him. Results...I decided I'm not sure that I'm interested in being a baby photographer. Maybe I'll stick to adults...which I guess would leave me with wedding photography. Pierce was so interested in everything except for me. He totally ignored me and tried to crawl around and eat leaves. We have the opposite problem when I attempt to photograph him indoors. I end up with a bunch of very close up pictures of an open-mouthed baby reaching for the camera.

3. Today Pierce pulled himself up to standing for the first time. He grabbed onto our bass speaker in our living room, and got on his knees. Then he stuck his little bum up in the air and stood up on his feet. He was extremely wobbly and right by the tile floor in front of our fireplace, so I moved him.

4. What's the deal with the flu this year? Doesn't the flu go around every year? Isn't the swine flu not even as bad as the regular flu? I'm still a little paranoid about it since I have a baby now, but not enough to get us any shots for it.

5. I decided to just forget about crying it out or whatever other methods there are out there and just do my own method. It's called make your baby happy method. I just want to make sure he enjoys going to bed. Sometimes I nurse him to sleep, sometimes I shush him to sleep, sometimes I sing him to sleep, sometimes I pat his bum until he falls asleep, and sometimes I let him cry a little before I do anything so he can get out his frustration about being tired. Maybe I'm creating a non-independent child, but I think he'll turn out ok.

6. Pierce doesn't like vegetables. I keep trying to give them to him but he gags severely and cries. He did the same thing when I tried to give him some baby food chicken (I gagged just smelling it so that one was understandable). He likes all his fruits though. Has anyone else had this experience? What should we do? Do you think he'll start liking them once we start table foods?

7. We got new phones and new phone numbers! Brock had his Utah phone number for about 9 years, and I had mine for 5 and a half years. I've wanted to get a local number since we moved here, but I couldn't switch mine unless he did his too (family plan), so I had to wait until he was ready. We love our new phones! We also have unlimited texting now, so we're enjoying that. We only had 200/month before.

8. I haven't mentioned this for some reason, but Pierce has thrush again. I was so mad when I saw those white patches in his mouth. It was totally gone for at least a month after we used the stronger medicine. I believe the culprit was a bottle of infant tylenol that we used on him when he was younger and did not clean the dropper. That's the only thing I could think of. The stronger medicine worked completely, but it's not something you want to keep giving a baby because it has the potential to do damage to your kidneys. It was a last resort. Now we're back to the original medicine which is completely safe but not that effective. I feel like he's going to be taking this his whole life. I've just accepted that it's a part of his life. I think we got thrush because I took antibiotics for my sinus infection that I had when he was born. Antibiotics kill both good and bad bacteria, so yeast can overgrow. Thrush is a yeast infection in the mouth. I hope to never have this experience with any other child.

About the sleep thing, that is a great method! I did the same thing when I wasn't comfortable with letting him cry it out. Then, you finally feel like you get to a point where it's absolutely necessary that he learns to go to sleep on his own. Don't worry, Jackson went through the same thing and he falls asleep all by himself now.

He also went through the same ordeal with the foods. He hated vegetable and little gerber foods like the chicken or any kind of meat for that matter. All he ate was fruit! It's taken awhile, but after putting it in front of him CONSTANTLY, he finally eats chicken nuggets or grilled chicken and loves it. He even loves broccoli now. Did not see that coming. I don't know how it all happens, but eventually they grow out of a phase and start doing all sorts of things.

Lexi hated veggies too. We have a video to prove it. She gagged and spit it out every time. Don't worry about it. There's a meal by gerber that Lexi LOVED called 'apples and chicken.' She ate that all the time, so try that if you want Pierce to get more protein.

About #1---A baby adds 10 times to your laundry because you and Brock don't poop, pee and puke on yourselves every 5 minutes like a baby does. lol

about the thrush thing, I too had taken a medication right before delivery but I heard about some all natural powder stuff (total granola I know) but it puts the good bacteria into your body. They have pills for you and then a powder for the baby. You just give them half a tsp. in a bottle with either breast milk or water once a day. It's expensive but worth trying if you want to. I felt that it definitely helped. I can't remember the name of what it's called but on the bottles the names are "Infant's Probiotic" and "Super 8 Hi-Potency Probiotic". You get it at a health/vitamin store.

Celeste - don't make fun of granola people! And I believe you are talking about probiotics which I happen to have a bottle of if you need them! :D

Britney - Regarding the veggies, you can always revert back to my previous post: http://amydigiacomo.blogspot.com/2009/01/baby-cubes.html
Try making your own! Carrots are sweet, so he might like those. Mashing up some sweet peas might work too. And you can always mix fruits and veggies if it is the sweetness that he likes. Win-win!

Sam never ate the baby foods in the jars except for the fruit and I couldn't blame him, that stuff smells funky!

Yuck on thrush :(
Have you checked out a natural remedy like colloidal silver?

Betsy has always been good about eating veggies, except for carrots... she gagged on those, but Parent's Choice makes a apple/carrot combo (somebody gave it too me, otherwise I probably would have never bought it) and she'll eat that... so I suggest mixing fruits and veggies
