grandparents

For Pierce, we call my parents Mimi and Grandad, and Brock's parents are Grandma and Grandpa. My mom requested the name Mimi, and I chose the name Grandad for my dad because he had no preference (he's so easy going). I chose that for him because that's what we called his dad, and that's what he called his grandpa too, I believe. Brock thinks it's so strange to call grandparents anything other than grandma and grandpa, and he's not really comfortable with it. I'm forcing him to get comfortable with it though. I'm not comfortable using the terms grandma and grandpa because I've never called any grandparents that before, but I'm still going to do it because that's what Joe and Carmen want to be called.

I'm curious....what do YOU call your grandparents and what do your kids call theirs?

Jose's parents we call "Papepe" and "Abuela from Peru" and my parents we call "Abuela from Puerto Rico" and "Motorcycle Grandpa". Very creative. Their only great grandma we call "Mama Berta" (Jose's grandma).

We grew up always calling my grandparents, grandma and grandpa. When I would hear kids call their grandparents different names I thought it sounded weird. I would say my kids will call their grandparents grandma and grandpa, not some different name. lol, then Baylee came along.....For my dad we would tell her to say grandpa and all she could get out was pa. So, he has been Pa now for about a year. For grandma she would get it confused with Pa for grandpa and the ma she would want to say mommy, so she started saying Pawme. hehehe, so even though I always said my kids would only say grandma and grandpa, it actually sounds very cute, Pa and Pawme.

I call my grandparents Grandma & Grandpa with their last name (when needed to clarify) and David calls his grandmas (he doesn't have grandpas) Grandma then their first name. I kinda always thought other names for grandparents were weird too . . . sorry :)

That's funny...My mother-in-law is Mimi.

My grandparents were "Taffy's Grandma" (after her dog) and "Mark's Grandma" (She didn't have a dog, so she got named after her youngest son)

My parents are Bompa Pokey and grandma. One of my nephews calls their other grandparents Big Mama and Big Papa. I always thought that was weird....I wouldn't want to be called "Big" even by my grandkids...

We were the same as Valerie, grandma and grandpa "last name", Eric called his grandma and grandpa "first name", I always liked the nickname thing for grandparents it made it sound more personal and close, (I guess that comes from being one of 65+ grandkids). My dad wanted to be called Papa, my mom is just Grandma, Betsy is the first on Eric's side, so we just had this discussion. They want to be Grandma Judy and Grandpa Ron, so aside from my dad, no nicknames for Betsy's grandparents either... it makes me a little sad...

so I called my maternal grandma Nanny and my paternal grandma, just grandma.... Macy calls my mom and her husband, Gobby and Pop. Macy made up Gobby on her own, and we made up Pop for K-fed because I didn't feel comfortable with calling him Grandpa.. ( maybe I'm rude) and then Rich's parents are Grandma and Grandpa... I think all your names for everyone are super cute! But you'll be surprised, your kids might just make up somehting that sticks...

This is so fun! Grandparents on mom´s side we call Nanny & Poppa. Grandpa on dad´s side we call Papaw. Stephen does the whole Grandpa & Grandma thing. He wants his mom called Grandma because that´s normal to him, lol. We will see what Sam comes up with.
Zoe (Cody´s daughter) started calling Mom ¨Mimi¨, so that´s what she is to all of the grandkids who can talk. Jackson cracks me up because he will interchange my name with Mimi, they´re pretty similar. He´ll get really confused and then correct himself. Then he´ll forget what he was saying in the first place.

Always grandpa and grandma. I didn't even know that they could choose a name to be called until I moved to the south. Then I heard Mimi, papa, Nana, pa... etc. I was really surprised. We are grandpa and grandma
