Funny/Sad Story....

I have so many things to blog about. Maybe one of these days you'll hear about them. I guess it would be easier if I didn't feel pressure to post pictures. Uploading pictures takes a lot more time than just typing up a little paragraph. I'm not sure where that pressure comes from...maybe just from myself because I know that I enjoy reading blogs with a lot of pictures. Anyway, here's one that doesn't have a picture. A picture would definitely make it better...no, actually a video would be the perfect depiction of what happened, but unfortunately I didn't capture it.

We're going to stain our deck. Brock's been doing prep work on it, power washing and sanding. Over the weekend, he thought he'd work outside shirtless to get some sun. I suggested he wear sunscreen, but I guess sunscreen isn't manly or something... Of course, he got a sunburn. It didn't seem to bother him much Sunday or most of the day yesterday even though it looked terribly painful. Last night when he took his shirt off, it suddenly started hurting and itching. He wanted me to put some aloe vera gel on it, but I was feeding Pierce. He came back up as I was finishing and was pretty upset that I hadn't helped him yet. He was about to get in the shower so I thought it was kind of strange that he wanted it then, but he said he was dying. I put it on, and he took a shower a few minutes later. When he got out, I put some more on him, and he put his clothes on. Right away, he started running around and crawling on the floor and screaming and just outright freaking out. Apparently it was a strange intense itch/pain sensation that he's never felt before. He said it felt like little ants attacking him or pins stabbing him. He said he wanted to die. He said it would have felt better to rip his skin off than what he was feeling. For about 3 hours last night we tried everything we could think of to give him relief. We put more aloe vera on it, lotion, and powder (I didn't think that would help, but I guess it sounded good to him at the time). He took 4 or 5 showers. He soaked in a bath with baking soda. He took several Aleve and one of my post partum pain killers. He put a wet towel on his back. He blew a fan on it. Nothing was helping. Finally I drove to Walmart at midnight and got him some Benadryl. We used the spray first, but it was drying fast, and he wanted moisture, so we put cream on it. Finally he was able to fall asleep. We think maybe he had an allergic reaction to the laundry detergent in his clothes or maybe to the soap he used in the shower, but he wore the clothes all day with nothing and it started before he took his shower, so who knows? It was crazy. I felt bad for him, but I didn't know what to do to help. I wish I had it on video so he'd remember to wear sunscreen next time. Of course, he still hasn't learned his lesson because he said he's had bad sunburns before and they've never been like that. We'll see...
