Baseboards

The first time we had our kitchen floor ripped out, they replaced all of the baseboards too. They looked really bad, so after they put in our hardwood floor, we told them that we wanted our baseboards to look normal. So they sent over one of the warranty guys back in June to work on it. This is how it turned out.

Ridiculous. We told them that we wanted them to make it right. Actually, Brock told them that he wanted to do the paint and the drywall repairs himself, but I guess it's against their policy to work on a project together with the homeowner. They told us that the man that did the repairs has a terminal illness, and they assured us that someone else could do a better job. Well, the other guy did do a better job, but he still didn't do enough to make it look like it did when we first moved in, like the rest of our house. We told them we still weren't happy with it, so they sent him over again. Long story short, we ended up having to do it on our own if we wanted it to look any better. Brock's dad happened to be coming to visit and to help us with another project, so we changed our plans to having him help with the baseboards instead. We had no idea how difficult it would be.
Joe got here Wednesday night (2 weeks ago). They started working on it that night and all day Thursday. Our house was a mess. Brock kept injuring himself, so there was blood on all the walls. Joe had to leave for Indiana Friday morning to help his dad with some projects (poor guy never gets a break). The baseboards still weren't finished, but most of the hard work was done. Brock and I drove up to Connersville that night and stayed for the weekend. They worked all day Saturday. Brock played farmer and mowed his grandpa's field. I sat under a tree and watched him. The good thing about Brock is that as long as I'm watching him work, he feels like I'm helping. It works for me.

Brock did a little bit of work on the baseboards every night last week after work. I usually just help by being his gopher and getting whatever he needs since he usually leaves everything spread all over the place. I also helped by filling in all of the nail holes with putty. Saturday we spent most of the day taping everything off. Then Brock painted the walls.

By the end of the weekend, it was all finished. We are very relieved to have it done. We added another piece of trim above what we already had because of the damage that some of the walls had. We think it looks good. We still have to do some more touch ups and cleaning, but it's basically done.

House projects are so much fun but a lot of work. Baseboards and Crown are some of the harder things to do. I'm glad you had help. Hey, we just got back from Arkansas. It was fun.

i feel like you guys always get the shaft on stuff like this...like your car paint job, your stairs, your hardwood floors and brocks bmw that kept breaking in 2002.... and brock is probably THE worst person for all this to happen to since he likes his stuff perfecto...that's a good quality though.. at least you'll have good stuff!!
