TV Project
It took us a while to figure out what we wanted to do with the TV display in our living room. We went back and forth between getting an entertainment center and finding some way to keep the TV above the fireplace. We finally decided what we wanted to do. Brock spent the last few weeks trying to transfer what was in his mind to paper and trying to share it with his dad so he could help. We spent the last week getting all of the supplies and tools ready for his visit. (This is what it had looked like since we moved in. Cheap cabinets and cords everywhere.)
Joe came in Friday night. We picked him up from the airport and he took us to dinner. When we got home, they started working on the project.
They woke up early Saturday morning, and spent all day working. I don't know how they stayed so patient because there was a lot of cutting and recutting, measuring and remeasuring. I guess men like doing stuff like this. Strange. Either that or they know that someone has to do it, and it's definitely not going to be me. I think they must have enjoyed it though because they seemed like they were in a good mood the whole time.

They finished late Saturday night. It looks so good. They built 2 shelves as well as a mounting system for our 100 pound TV to hang off of. The challenge was that the mounting brace is designed to be screwed into 2 studs of a flat wall, but they had to rig it where it would hang in this oddly shaped corner. I was really impressed with the result. The TV can now move in and out, turn side to side, and tilt backward and forward.
The shelves behind the TV will hold our components (DVR, DVD player, Xbox, PS3, Wii, etc.). We still have to paint it though, so we haven't put anything up there yet besides the TV.
We went to the first hour of church yesterday morning, and then we took off to Connersville Indiana. We shot guns, ate food, and visited with Brock's dad, grandpa, and aunts and uncles. Then Brock and I drove back home.

We had a good weekend and really enjoyed getting to spend one on one time with Joe (two on one actually). We appreciate him spending his weekend here working hard and teaching Brock about carpentry. It was fun.

Is Brock shooting at that propane tank?!
quite impressive work, Roark...and Mr. Roark... I know you've got it all planned out, I'm just wondering how you get the remote to signal your stuff behind the tv...I'm trying to figure it out and since i'm a wee bit challenged, I'm stuck. :(
It looks really good. How sturdy is it? Maybe, when it's done you can take some more pictures of all the components. So if you want to put a dvd in or anything you have to swing the tv out?
I was thinking the same thing as 'mom'...what train of thought doesn't make you pause and think when you are pointing a shotgun (which doesn't exactly shoot straight) in the general direction of a big propane tank? You might be a redneck if... :)
Shooting guns in your sunday best! Awesome. Good work with the Tv stand. You have every gaming system, don't you???
I love home projects! I feel so accompished and adultlike! Looks like you had a fun week-end.
