It's a Small World

I've had 3 "it's a small world" experiences since we've moved to Cincinnati.

1) After our first Sunday in our new ward here, the Relief Society president and one of her counselors came over to meet me. They originally planned to come on a Friday but they had to move it up to Thursday. As they were leaving, the counselor apologized for changing the time, but she was a flight attendant and she had to work the next day. I ask her what airline, and she said Delta. It suddenly dawned on me that I had seen her before. I couldn't figure out when though because I always fly Southwest or American Airlines. I remembered flying Delta one time a few years ago when we missed our flight due to weather, but I knew I had seen her more recently than that. Well, after they left I remembered that last April when I was flying to Utah for my graduation, I was supposed to fly on American out of College Station, but we had bad weather so they cancelled my flight. They scheduled me early the next morning on a Continental flight to Houston and then to Salt Lake City. I haven't asked her about it yet (I don't know if she would even remember where she flew and when), but I'm pretty sure she was a flight attendant on that flight from Houston to Salt Lake City, and when I looked through my email at my itinerary, it said Continental operated by Delta. So there ya go!

2) We had a couple in our ward invite us over Sunday to watch the Superbowl with some of their other friends. We had met 2 of the friends at church, but the other couple they invited are in another ward, so we had never met them. They introduced themselves, and we went through the list of questions you ask when you first meet someone. Where are you from? What do you do? How long have you been married? blah blah blah. The girl said that she was from Mississippi. Then I suddenly remembered hearing her name before because I have friends from Mississippi, and it turns out she's from the same town so she knows them!

3)The last one is really weird. So I'm used to making random connections with people at church because it really is a small world when you're a member of our church, but yesterday I was talking to our next door neighbor, and I found out that she has lived in Utah AND Arkansas in the last few years. She came over and was SO excited because her husband had seen the BYU sticker on the back of our car. She said that she LOVED living in Utah and everyone was so nice to her there. She didn't want to leave, but she needed to be closer to her family in Kentucky. So after we talked about Utah for a little bit and how much she loved it there, she told me that from Utah, they moved to Arkansas. I was like that's where I'm from! Her reaction was so funny, she turned right around and started walking away. She was even MORE excited about that. She lived in Maumelle which is really close to where I'm from. She said she loved it there too, but her husband wasn't happy with his job, so they moved up here. She was so friendly and she talked to me for a long time about our neighborhood and stuff. I'm glad she had a good experience in Utah being a Catholic among tons of Mormons AND a good experience in Arkansas, my favorite state!

So the moral of the story is....IT IS A SMALL WORLD AFTER ALL. That song wasn't lying.
