The Day We Met, warning: long post w/ no pictures

Friday night is just like any other night when you don't work and you have no friends to hang out with. Our internet wasn't working yesterday, and our TV was disconnected because we were exchanging it, so I decided to read some of my old journals. Most of it was extremely embarrassing. It was hard for me to not rip out pages and shred them out of fear that someone might someday read it and see how crazy I was. However, I thought some of it might be fun to blog about. So here is the story of the day that I "met" Brock. I wrote this down right after we got married in May 2004, but it happened a year before on May 31, 2003. Everything in italics is commentary I added just now.

"It was a Saturday. I had been working with Cody Orvin at Apex Medical for a few weeks since he was back from BYU for the summer, and I heard from him that Brock (his roommate at BYU) and Branden Roark were coming to town for Anya Green's wedding reception. The Roark family had lived in Conway, but moved away about 4 years before. I was anxious to see them. There just isn't much excitement in Conway Arkansas so you get excited about every little thing. Anyway, that morning I was working by myself. I was quite bored when I received a random phone call. A guy called asking for a commode chair to be delivered to him. I told him that I was the only one there and we wouldn't be able to deliver until Monday. He started to get hostile and said that he needed it then and that there was poop everywhere. I started to get suspicious when I heard laughter. Then I heard Cody's voice on the line. I found out that the angry customer was really Brock.

Later that day I went to Anya's reception. One of the first people I saw was Cody. He introduced me to Brock (even though I already knew who he was). I said hi and shook his hand. He was wearing a light blue shirt with khakis. He also had facial hair that hadn't been trimmed in awhile. Branden hadn't come with him. I wanted to find out why Branden didn't come, and it gave me a good conversation topic with Brock, so I went and sat by him. He gave me his phone to call Branden. Later Celeste and I found out that Branden was giving his mission farewell talk when we were going to Dallas for EFY. We told Brock we wanted to go to it (and we did).

I happened to be wearing the same color shirt as Brock at the reception, so at one point I told him that we should get married because we have the same color shirt. I was totally joking of course, I didn't really think we were going to get married. Little did I know.

After the reception, a bunch of us were going to go to the river. First we went to get Brock's car from Cody's house. I thought for sure I could get him to let me drive his car, but there was just no convincing him. I did want to ride with him in his car so I let Celeste drive my car which was very difficult for me because my car was only a month old. When we got back to the Green's, he let me drive his car around the block. I didn't much care about driving it, but I was glad I talked him into it! Everyone went over to my house to swim later.

The next day at church I played the organ, but I didn't know that it had been transposed 5 steps higher and hardly anyone could sing the hymns. I was really embarrassed because Brock was there. I went and talked to him after the meeting. I told him that I wanted to call Branden (by this time it was just an excuse, sorry Branden, I promise I was originally interested in talking to you). He gave me his phone number, Branden's phone number, and his family's phone number. I assumed he must have really wanted me to be able to call. During church, Celeste and I talked the whole time about Brock. She was going to ride back to Dallas with him to visit her brother and I wanted her to tell Brock that I was in love with him. (haha)

To be continued....

Okay, so that's the story of when we met! Next time: Getting to Know Each Other

I can't believe you used me as and excuse. Unforgiveable. ;-)
