We went to Houston over the weekend. Brock's grandparents live down there as well as aunts, uncles, and cousins. His mom Carmen and 2 sisters Brooke and Brittany were there visiting from Utah. We hadn't seen his mom for a few weeks, and we hadn't seen his sisters since April when we went back to BYU for my graduation. The weekend was really fun, but not long enough. It felt like we just came and went. We got there late Friday night. Saturday afternoon we got to go out on the lake. It was SO hot! I wasn't really interested in getting in the water, I just wanted to get some sun because I haven't been out
much this summer and it shows. Brock's cousins Summer and Lance wakeboarded for awhile. Branden skiied a little. I was really impressed with their skills. I've never tried wakeboarding, but I've tried skiing on a couple of occassions, and I absolutely cannot do it. It's quite ridiculous how weak I am. Most of the time I can't hang onto the rope and it gets ripped out of my hands, and when I do hang on long enough to start getting pulled up, I don't have the strength to stand up. So I thought I could just chill on the boat and take a nice ride. Well the lake is a little shallow in some parts, and of course we got stuck. There were 4 of us in swimsuits. The other 3 (besides me) got out, and as I was starting to, Brock's uncle Dean said that I didn't have to. I'm not sure why he said that.
Maybe he was getting impatient with how long it was taking me, or maybe he thought that I was so weak that it wouldn't make a difference if I got in to push. Either way, I was happy about it. Then I started feeling guilty (as I often do because I'm a really nice person), so I hopped in. I think the water was hotter than the air. It was disgusting. The bottom of the lake is covered in several inches of mud which your feet sink into. Plus, I have an extreme fear of snak
es. I'm serious, I've had nightmares about snakes my whole life. Well, I whined for a little bit, then I realized that it was probably really annoying, so I stopped. I went to the front of the boat and started pulling the rope that was attached to the front. We moved it and got unstuck, and I walked around to the back to get on the boat. It was so hot, and the water was so hot, that I started getting dizzy and getting that pass out feeling that I get sometimes where I see a lot of little dots, and my ears
feel like they're under water. I got my water bottle, but it was hot of course. Well, my little breakdown only lasted for a few seconds because as soon as the boat started moving and the breeze started blowing on me, I felt 100% better. So the moral of the story is....I'm really weak. I didn't cause a scene though. I don't think anyone knew that there was anything wrong with me. I was kind of embarassed for anyone to know that I was that weak. Brock wasn't with us. He was having an adventure of his own. He pulled Brooke, Carmen, and his cousin Marissa around on a tube for awhile. Being the very kind people that they are, they stopped to help some people who had gotten their boat stuck in the mud (there was a lot of that going on). They had several people pushing, but they couldn't get it unstuck. Finally, the police came and pulled them o
ut. All th
at pushing and the heat made Brock sick. He wasn't sick for a minute like I was, but he legitmately felt sick for the rest of the day, and his back was really sore yesterday. I felt bad for him. I felt bad for thinking that I was about to die when there were people out there in that lake that were working 10 times harder than I was. I also felt bad because just the day before
I had told him that he doesn't like to help people because he didn't stop for a guy whose car was broken down. (The guy was on the other side of the interstate, so there wasn't a whole lot we could do.) Well, despite the incidents, it was still a fun weekend. We ate good food as always. Brock's uncle Lane gave all the older kids and young adults a speech yesterday on how to do well at a job interview. Most of the stuff I already knew from experience (because I've had a lot of interviews in my day), but he explained it well, and there were some things I hadn't thought of or heard of before. These people are really fun to hang out with. I'm glad to have inlaws that I like.

Your story makes me want to jump in a cold pool... i'm sorry you were SO miserable :( I'm sorry brock got sick too. Maybe you should both start weight training :) hahaha jk... that was super nice of him to help. I'm waiting on derek to call me cause he and cody are here in Utah and they are going to call me when they are out of a movie... I'm glad cause that picture of them on your blog makes me miss them... why can't we ALL BE NEIGHBORS!!!!
it was fun to hear from you...and to catch up on your life since you've left UT. Looks like you guys are having fun...well minus the heat and sick stuff.
Britney, I also hate the squishy mudd inbetween my toes feeling at the lake. You are totally not weak at all. Being in the heat would cause anyone to feel sick. Keep the fun blogs coming! Coming to Utah anytime soon?
You're so silly. I think the moral of the story is to not live in Texas! :) I'm just kidding. I'm glad you like your in-laws. That is so important. I love mine too. They are so much fun. We're planing a huge family trip. I can't wait!
I like that when reading your stories, you give your entire thought process...very funny. This makes me excited to go to Florida! We are going jet-skiing there in 2 weeks!
