South Padre Island

Back in May we went down to South Padre Island with Branden, Derek, and Cody. Branden had already been staying with us because we went to Dallas to find an apartment. Derek and Cody flew into Houston and we picked them up and drove straight to Padre from the airport. It took about 7 hours to drive there.Even though it was cloudy the whole time, we had lots of fun. We went to the beach a lot, and ate a lot (WAY too much - I'm still trying to lose the weight). It was Memorial Day weekend, but things didn't get too busy until the night before we left.

One of the days we went down to Brownsville and crossed the border into Matamoros. Derek had never been to Mexico before. Everyone spoke Spanish, so it was really fun. It started pouring while we were there though. I was especially annoyed bc I was wearing Old Navy flip flops, and I was slipping all over the place. I could hardly walk, and we did a lot of walking. Cody and Derek were really outgoing, and talked to a lot of Mexicans. They had an amusing conversation with a drunk guy. As we were walking down the sidewalk, we came across a man reading the Libro de Mormon. Cody stopped to ask him about it, and we found out that he was a member of our church and his family ran a fruit stand on the street. We met his wife and his little daughter. Brock offered to buy his daughter a treat. She was shy at first, but her mom said "it's okay, they're mormons." She walked across the street with us and Brock bought her a popcicle.

The trip was so fun! I don't think I've ever laughed so hard. These guys are so funny.

Looks like a lot of fun. I feel so left out :( I'll live. I've never been to Mexico either, but Carmen and I are going to Peru in a few months. That should be fun.
